I have the oldest style all metal foot controller. Is rewiring it similar to how we would rewire a bakelite foot controller? Are bakelite ones safer to use than all metal?
Also,I wanted to replace the foot cushions, but there are no screws to remove the old ones. Please help!

As an alternative, I keep the original bakelites, but use an all metal modern Alphasew foot pedal on my FWs. I only need one, switch it between machines, has a good plug and cord that I can depend on. Just an idea...
I don't have experience with first generation foot pedals, sorry.

I also have a Singer Featherweight and kept the old style controler to keep machine "original." For actual sewing I purchased the metal foot control and a new cord.

What is the parts number on your foot? The very first Featherweights came with #193852. There was another series in the late 1940s with #195322.

I just took my 195322 apart to see how the feet are attached--it looks like they just have an unthreaded stem that pushes up into the controller from the bottom. The feet on mine are in good condition. I would suggest you get in touch with Glen Williams. If anybody would know whether there are replacements for that type of feet, he would. His email addy is [email protected]

Thanks pknord.I ordered a new cord set from Dave Mccallum.Do you think I can rewire it ,like he shows how to rewire the bakelite foot pedals on his DVD.
I'll also definitely contact Glenn Williams about the cushions.I have ordered things from him before and have always got good service.

You might call him though, I emailed him Monday with no response, so called Wednesday and he said his computer is down. I ordered at 2:00 pacific time and the parts came today! Less than 48 hours from order in Florida to Oregon, I couldn't believe it.

Yes, same rewiring. Shoot Dave an email, he may also have the foot controller cushions you want.
