I bought a wool skirt at the Salvation Army. It's a nice Pendleton wool, which was completely pleated. I spent 2 hours picking it apart and it's a nice pieces of fabric. But the pleat lines are still quite obvious. I put it in the drier with wet towels to steam shrink it as recommended on another board. It came through fine, but the lines are still obvious. I'm going to use this in the repurpose contest, though I'm not quite sure for what. But I would like to get rid of the lines as much as possible. Any suggestions?

They could of been steamed pressured pleated. I tried to lenthen a wool skirt a few years back. The lines wouldn't come out.
You also could try weting a cloth and putting it on the skirt and use a hot iron and see if it come out.
If it doesn't you know it's been pressured steamed.
Hope it works.

Interesting. I was given several Pendleton wool skirts and all their pleats came out with a good steam press. I used heavy steam, wool setting and a press cloth.

I haven't tried pressing it yet, which might have been the obvious first step
I will try that tomorrow, me and my iron have a long relationship with the steam... And I have the steam burns to show it. Pressing cloth huh? I'll have to improvise that one, still don't have one of those. If that doesn't work I'll be looking for more suggestions.

For the two pleated Pendleton wool skirts I used for the fabric for this review, I cut them apart, picked out the pleats, pinked the raw edges, and threw them in my washing machine on delicate cycle, cold water, with Woolite. I hung the fabric to dry, and then steam pressed them.
No residual pleat lines, plus I was glad to get them clean. I wash all my Pendleton wool in the washing machine before cutting, comes out great.

Well that's basically what I with the skirt. No Woolite, just a little bit of regular detergent. Laid it out flat and steam pressed afterwards. Just a tiny bit of felting, which is okay by me. Pleat lines are gone and the fabric looks great. Thanks for the help!
