What makes a cookie chewier, like the thick bakery ones? The recipes followed directly don't always look like the magazine photos!
What makes a dry cookie more moist--more shortening, less flour, a little milk? We go thru a lot for the holidays and using real butter is more expensive. Is there a basic oil/marg. combo that works too?
I'm off to get Rum for those favorite Rum Balls now.....

This is a good one we like:
Rocky Road Cookies
6 oz. chips
1/2 C marg.
1 1/2 C flour
1/2 t. baking pwd.
1/2 t. salt
3/4 C nuts
2 eggs
1 C sugar
1/2 t. vanilla
Preheat oven to 400. Melt 1/2 C of the chips with the marg. and cool.
Stir dry ing. together, add remaining chips and stir to coat them.
Beat eggs, stir in sugar. Add cooled choc mixture, vanilla, and flour to egg mixture, just blending. Drop big spoons on greased sheet (I make only 6 per sheet) and bake 8 minutes until almost no fingerprint remains when touched, remove to cool right away.

My grandmother used sour cream in her sugar cookies. They were very good (not crumbly or dry).
Also, I've used oatmeal in one of my chocolate chip recipes. Very chewy and yummy.

Gramma. I find using cake mixes as a base for my cookies seems to end up having some nice soft cookies.. so I use those a lot.. Thx to all who posted tips on chewy cookies.. love those..
