After all research on lining fabrics I was thinking about buying Bemberg rayon for my first lined dress. Meanwhile my friend ordered a sample to see what is look like (she sews too). We discovered that it is a sew-through lining. Is there different kinds/thicknesses of this fabric? Stores selling Bemberg lining (for example Waechester's Fine Fabrics)are not mentioning anything about how thick or transparent this fabric...I know a lot of people love this lining and I have a question if actually you can see seams and everything under lining....

Every piece of Bemberg lining that I have bought is the same thickness. It is not see-thru, although I have to admit I have never bought white.

I'm not sure of your question, the lining goes under the dress so I don't know how you would see the seams anyway unless you had the dress on inside out?

Yes, that is exactly what I wanted to say: when the dress is inside out...

It would only be a concern to me if it were a jacket that others might see. I love Bemberg. So nice even in hot weather.

The white Ambiance from Joann's (which comes on bolts) is pretty sheer. I bought some silvery gray and lavender Ambiance (that came on rolls) from a NYC shop which is much more substantial. I wanted to buy their white Ambiance, but it was nowhere to be found.

The Logantex brand of rayon bemberg, called "Ambiance", has always been one thickness in the stores where I buy mine. There might be other brands that call their lining bemberg?

I see both ambiance and bemberg mentioned a lot on sewing discussion /forums. It seems it is a name a company applies to each of its lines. I understand it to be rayon lining. I have not seen either name in Canadian fabric stores. But do see rayon lining. What is so special about ambience and bemberg that is different from other linings made of the same fibre? I have wondering about this for a long time!

AFAIK, "Ambiance" is the product name of Logantex's rayon bemberg lining. (like Logantex's "Sophia" knit fabric) When I order Ambiance brand, I know exactly what I am getting.

Bemberg is a type of fabric and can be generically used by any manufacturer. If I order 'bemberg' lining, I'm not really sure of what I'm getting in weight or quality.

I have seen Bemberg at Fabricland but that was at least a year and a half ago as I haven't shopped at Fabricland in at least that long (the local stores have lost my business permanently).

I know at least 2 of our local fabric stores have carried Bemberg -- one is no longer in business but I bought some at the other late last year.
