I'm helping my elderly mum who owns both the above machines, so I'm a complete novice. She wants to sell her 10001 machine but wants to be able to use the designs she has on the Janome "cards" in her newer 11000.
As a novice, I'm assuming from what I've read, it seems possible by transferring the designs from the 10K onto a flash-card and using that in the 11K machine. I'm also assuming here that both the 10K and the 11K machines have a flash-card slot.
She also uses a separate card reader device (she once owned a 5000 machine) that transfers designs onto the 10001. Could she use a flash-card to memorise these designs too so they could be used on the 11K.
Hope this makes sense and that somebody can help me/us. Cheers.

I would think the designs are on a computer somewhere they just have to be transferred to a USB stick. JEF designs are JEF designs and can be used in any Janome embroidery machine. If she doesn't have the designs on the computer then she can transfer them there and then rewrite them to the USB stick. But I believe have to format the stick in the 11000 before adding designs so it knows what folder to put them in. Never mind in addition to the USB slot, the 11000 has the same slot as the 10001 so she can use the flash cards in the 11000 same as she did for the 10001. However if the 11000 has a different folder format systems then you will have to do the above.

The MC10001 and MC11000 both have a card slot built in that uses the compact flash cards. No need to transfer/change just insert card into machine. The MC10001 had the ability to use multiple folders Embf5-Embf16, I don't remember if the MC11000 will read folders Embf6 and higher so these designs may need to be backed up on a computer first. The MC11000 also uses USB stickes they are faster and easier to find than more CF cards.
If she has created designs on the MC10001 and stored within it's memory (it has 3 folders for storing embroidery designs) you can either recall them 1 by 1 and save to CF card. If she has customizer software with an older 32 bit computer the MC10001 can be hooked up to a computer and designs saved. This again will be 1 at a time transfer. Janome web may still have notes on their site under software.
For the designs on memory cards from the older MC5000 the external card reader won't hook up with the MC11000. If she wants those designs than you would have to open each design on the MC10001 and save to CF card. Both of these machines use the JEF file format.

Thanks so much for your insight and information.
So, can we download the designs from the MC10001 onto some computer software, then copy them onto say a usb stick and then use them in the mc11000?

At some time those downloads where stored on her computer. They may still be there and just need to be sent to the flash drive.
Insert one of the cards into the reader to see what is on it. If it is the same as what is on the computer there is no need to make a copy or do a transfer if transfers are doable.
Is there a manual for the reader? This would show how to retrieve the design files from the card, again if it is doable.
