I am making my Mother of the Bride Jacket and Skirt out of dupioni silk (interlined with silk organza and lined with either voile (Jacket) or bemberg (skirt). The skirt waist is a little big but rather than cut it down, I thought about adding elastic at the back to give me a little room and to snug it up. The skirt is "faced" with the interlining and lining and has a side invisible zipper. There is no waistband (and I prefer it that way). How would you add elastic and what kind? Thanks.

Sew it to the seam allowance on the facing side. Cut the elastic a little shorter and quarter mark it with pins. Stretch the elastic it fit each section (bewteen the seams) as you sew it to the seam allowance. I learned this technique from Judy Barlup. I works well with a stabilizer or an elastic. When you turn the facing to the inside the elastic is concealed between the facing and the garment. I always tack the facing down at the seams. Sewing it to the seam allowance is a no brainer as the stitching doesn't show anywhere so accuracy is not required.

Liane has described this well. The only other thing I do and can add is that I use swimsuit elastic and zigzag on a long zigzag stitch wide enough to hold th elastic flat.
I use faced waistbands on all pants and skirts.
