Annual average??? (Moderated by Sharon1952, EleanorSews)

Hi...
I am wondering what is an annual average of a sewing machine's stitch usage...
Like a car's annual average mileage is 12,000...maybe this number has been bumped up...it's been a while since buying one...
Thank you

I don't think there is one, so kind of a useless # even if you had one for something. As think about it, for just garment sewing if you straight stitch medium length of stitches, not to much in a garment sometimes if only a few garment pieces there. Like a A-line skirt, but instead a multi pieced blazer or button down shirt would have way more. Zig zag stitches take up even more stitches for same amount of fabric traveled. A triple straight stitch or 3 step zig zag (that looks like rick rack) takes up 3 times as much stitches per inch.
Someone that embroiders or decorates stuff with feed dogs up or down, might do a lot of tight satin stitching and tons of stitches, or using fancy feed dog up stitches, they have a lot of stitches per inch in them too.
Hoop embroidery the same thing really. A smallish 3 X 4 inch embroidery design if solid and real dense, might have 40,000 stitches in there, or maybe its more open and looks much more like hand work, and it only has 20,000 stitches in there. Some big jacket back embroidery design maybe pretty solid might have 150,000 or more stitches in there, but could have way, way less too.
So I think no way to average, and a # there means nothing really. Everyone just sews different things, in different amounts and in different ways.

Well I've wondered this also since so many computerized machines store this information and buyers sometimes want to know total stitch count to determine average use or more than average but with no barometer learning that stitch count isn't very enlightening. Some bernina machines alert you at 1 million stitches that it is time for your annual service. This kind of helps to know bernina expects most users to hit that mark every year or so. I believe it's very generous and with my usage, that would take 2 years but I do use a different machine for quilting and were that not the case, I would probably reach 1 mil in a years time and I would consider that slightly more than average use. Checking stitches is sketchy anyway bc some are re-set to zero after each service and others show sewing stitches, emb stitches and total stitches separately.

I think the computerized machines count this since some of them have machine where the machine will be set to embroider without the owner. I know if my computer anything had a million anything and would be sure to want to see if the 3 million stitches were just in the last month (like heavy duty embroidery almost continuously!)
