Somewhere I read to use light weight interfacing on the back of applique fabric to reduce wrinkling but it seems to make the applique to stiff in my opinion. I am mainly monogramming on bibs and burp cloths which should feel nice and soft and the interfacing makes the part with the applique stiff, even though I am using lightweight. Just curious as to what others are doing.

Are you using a true lightweight interfacing, and not HeatnBond? HeatnBond is horribly stiff; made from plastic. You could use a very lightweight stabilizer. You could also use what's known as featherlight interfacing, or fusible tricot--my favorite.

That explains the stiffness. I've even tried the lite HeatNBond, and that still was like a board. Several quilting students broke their machine needles on two thicknesses of the Lite. It's made by Moda, which is a quilting fabric company, and I've never seen it anywhere else than a quilt shop. I had a friend who owned a quilt shop and she said that she was required to carry it, when I asked her if she had WonderUnder, which is like HeatNBond, but only lighter. WonderUnder is made by Pellon, I believe, and can be found at any fabric store, just like the interfacing. I've also seen it at Walmart.
