Given the demise of the English version of Burda Kids, I am going to subscribe to Ottobre. For those of you in the U.S. who already subscribe to this magazine, or have subscribed in the past, how did you place your subscription order? About 4 months ago I tried to order on their website, filled out all of the info. along with my credit card, and when I entered the information I never got a confirmation, etc. I don't think my order ever went through, so I was thinking of subscribing from a company on Ebay that sells Ottobre subscriptions.

Does anyone have any ideas of which way would be best? Also, how long did it take you after your placed your order to start receiving your subscription?

Thanks!!

Lauren

Lauren,

I used their website with a credit card and had no problem at all. This was about 1 1/2 years ago. They were very prompt about confirming my order and getting me my first issue. Maybe you should try again???

It is available at Joann Superstores (with a coupon!), if you have one near you.

my MIL gave me a sub for christmas, did it on the site, had a little trouble at first, but then it went through fine.

i think you can order a sub through wazoodle? or there is someone in the US you can get one through. try asking on the ottobre yahoo list:
Ottobre English Yahoo Group

edited to add -- i got my issue pretty quickly, because i had them start with an issue that had already been published. my winter issue didn't come, and so i emailed ottobre that i hadn't received it, and a replacement showed up fast. i was surprised how fast, considering it was coming overseas.

Girls do not dress for boys. They dress for themselves, and of course, each other. If girls dressed for boys, they’d just walk around naked at all times.

How much are single issues of Ottobre? I have never bought the magazine, but have seen it at Joann's before. I think I'd like to buy one single one first, to see if I like it before I subscribe.

Thanks!

I subscribed at the Ottobre design website without a problem and have e-mailed them too and received prompt replies so it's possible you just had a one-time glitch. The next issue is due to be published at the end of July and it's the 3/05 issue--fall clothes. It's published 4 times/year: issue 1 is spring, the issue 2 is summer, issue 3 is fall and issue 4 is winter. When I subscribed, I was given the choice of which issue to start my subscription with. If you can still do this and you decide to start with the 1/05 or 2/05 they will be sent out right away because those issues have already been published.

In the last issue there was an ad for the Wooly Thread (www.woolythread.com) which said it sold Ottobre Design subscriptions.

I think you'll be pleased with Ottobre Design. The size range per style is much greater than Burda Kids so there are a lot more styles that you can sew per issue for a particular child. Plus, there are a few women's patterns per issue too!

You can call them directly if you have any trouble ordering through the website. The phone number is on their website. You can also decide which issue you want to start with, so if you choose to start the subscription with an issue that is already out, then you should get it right away, within a week or two. Otherwise the next issue doesn't come out until July or august, I think.
