I currently have an Olfa 60mm rotary cutter and a Fiskars 45mm cutter. I wasn't that impressed with the Fiskars, but I do like the Olfa. I had to order a small 18mm cutter and bought the Clover cutter on Amazon. I haven't used it yet, but I thought I would ask everyone their opinions on the brands and what your experience is with Clover and Olfa. It seems the Clover has cushioned handles and that might make a difference.

I'd like to have a complete set (60, 45, 28 and 18mm) and just not sure if I should go Olfa or Clover. I don't have the ergonomic Olfa cutter and I think I do just fine with the basic one, but if someone has experience with the ergonomic rotary cutters, let me know!

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Jim

I have several different brands and sizes but the ones I prefer are all the Olfas. (My favorites are the ergonomic Olfas.)
They seem sturdier and more comfortable and stable to use than the others.

I've always bought Olfas and have been well satisfied.

Can you tell me how you like using the ergonomic Olfa's? I have never used one, but it seems like the handle has a mechanism that pushes the blade safety cover away when you grip it. This may sound like a dumb question, but do you find yourself having to grip the handle more to keep the safety cover retracted? Again, might sound like a dumb question and I hope I'm explaining right. I just don't understand how the safety cover mechanism works in conjunction with the handle.

On my Olfas, gripping the handle itself depresses the safety lever so that the shield is out of the way of the blade. That's if you've got the safety button set so that the shield can disengage. If you've got the shield engaged, even if you grip the handle part the shield will not move. I really like my Olfas and have one in each size. Just stocked up on blades from WAWAK too. I have an Olfa (the yellow ones, right?) 18mm that I used for paper crafts, and a Fiskars (? it's orange and grey) 45mm ergonomic.

The ergonomic one is nice to hold, and it has a release button that withdraws the blade, and a different lever to push it out. It cuts OK, but I don't love it because the blade it came with must have had a notch (always skips), and the blade always comes loose - I have to be sure to tighten it every time I cut.

I have all three brands of rotary cutters and out of them the one I use the most is 45mm ergonomic olfa it is the easiest for me to use and the safety works well. the others I keep on hand as back ups when I have replace the blade in the olfa and have not been to the store yet, hope this helps and happy sewing

My go to cutter is the Olfa Quick Change Rotary Cutter

I've used other brands but this is the most comfortable handle and blade changing is so much safer than other designs.

I used to use Olfas, but have switched to the Martelli ergonomic cutter because I have to protect my hands and wrists - I have had trouble with both in the past and am really trying hard to avoid it again.
