I need to make a muslim pattern for my dress form and for me to use as a reference--is this called a sloper? What patterns do you recommend for this Vogue, Butterick ?

Thank you,

Butterick and Vogue will give you more or less the same instructions and more or less the same result, so buy whichever one you can get at a good discount. You will learn a lot by making it up and following the fitting instructions.

Yes. A sloper is your base pattern and you make your changes to a copy of it for your different styles.

A "sloper" has no seam allowances (sa)but a "block" does. If you make slopers remember to add the sa when you cut your fabric. If you make blocks, make a note that you have added 1/4", 5/8", 1", or whatever your preference is of sa. If you are using your dress form, make sure it fits your body perfectly, too. An array of slopers or blocks, such as a princess seam bodice, regular bodice, pants (you can also use for capris and shorts), basic skirt, etc. is very useful in making garments from them alone, or altering commercial patterns. Have fun and good luck!
