Using old chennile cover ??? (Moderated by Sharon1952)
Posted on: 12/29/13 2:40 PM ET
I have our chenille queen size bedspread off to the side as it is showing it's age allot now with very thing areas or holes... so I was looking at it this morning & wondering would it be warm to use the remaining center that is in pretty good condition for batting? ... I was thinking cut off top area & bottom where it is tucked in & use the rest OR No ??? Opinions ...
If not then thinking may use it for throw pillow covers maybe .. or No..???
Thoughts please ...Thank you!

How textured is it?
I say sure, go ahead and use it if it's not so bumpily textured that you'll notice it through your quilt top and/or back.
I love chenille! I made a rag quit with chenille on the back and it was sooooo nice!

Thank you ... I think I will give it a go. ... it is an chenille bedspread that has bumpy like to show the design in the center & around sides... but I am thinking fold the bumpy part on itself & put it in like that..
Wonder if I should zig zag around areas that will be cut ... hmmm...
So now to cut off the terribly worn areas... I am going to miss this spread I have had it for years but reusing the nice part in quilt makes me feel good...
Thank you Cat

I have used old chenille bedspreads to make quilts, cutting them up and using the good pieces , using the chenille fabric just as I would use regular cotton fabrics , ,hope this helpschenille

I have used them for quilting and batting.
To save ones that are falling apart Ive put interfacing on the back - it stabilizes the material and fuses the woven pieces on the back - keeping them from falling out.

Kitty.. I would repurpose it. make it into pillows or what have you.. as you will still be able to enjoy it that way.. And nope. I personally would not use it as batting. just inviting other problems there.. just IMHO

Chenille bedspreads. The torture chambers of my childhood, where my buckled shoes would get stuck on the puffies and my mother would have a hissy fit when I tore a big hole in mine. This is the reason why I don't like chenille. But that being said, I don't think it would be a problem unless the puffies are so heavy that they would show through. The base for chenille, if I recall my childhood memories, is very thin so you might want to reinforce it with something.
If it were me, and if I really liked chenille, I'd make throw pillows out of them; reinforcing the fabric due to its thinness. But don't let me get ahold of them because I might throw them out the window.
I just don't like chenille.
