The garment district (Moderated by Deepika, EleanorSews)

Susan C. and I met for a great time in the garment district yesterday. I didn't take many pics, but I though I would share a couple.
A street scene with rolls of fabric. street scene
Inside the Loft...everything is sold by the pound. It's remnants, closeouts and out of season fabrics. We both bought a lot there. rooting around for fabric-have we no dignity?
and Susan getting weighed...well, her fabric is getting weighed. (Not a good pic of her, she's lovely) pay by the pound

Wow. I've never seen bolts of fabric on the sidewalk like that. Impressive.
I probably would have been overwhelmed and ended up buying nothing! Sounds like a great deal at the Loft, though. (And it sounds rather "dangerous". )

With a great wardrobe that's still in the flat-fabric stage.

Marylynn - thnaks for the interesting pics!
RE: Your ..."have we no dignity?"
No need to ask US - aren't you the one who walked out of her underpants in the Detroit airport?
Hahahahah - couldn't resist!

(I'm always double checking the elastics on my slips since I read those stories. )

it is hard to have any dignity after you drop your drawers in Detroit! Actually, the only dignified thing to do was step out of them and ignore it.The district can be a bit overwhelming. I've been there so often now that it feels like home. Some of the shopkeepers even remember me, now. I cheerfully offer 'guide services' to anyone coming this way.

Dignity, nothing! Mary Lynn will tell you I was so happy I was positively giddy! The fabric was $2 per pound and we had a coupon so it was $1 per pound. It's true that it is very overwhelming, but I had MaryLynn to guide me as in "oh- you don't want that" and "yes, you absolutely need that." It was very fun, very cool, and a big thank you to Mary Lynn for showing me the ropes.
