Before I go any further with this, I want to be sure it doesn't look like overkill to anyone else ... I'm not sure I am totally happy with this look.

I was going to put the border throughout the sashing on the quilt - and right now it's just down the right sashing in this photo. I could do a couple of things with the stars I have in the center of the block - I could alternate each block (four in each row, 20 total) between the double star layout as above and then a single star layout on the next block (each "layout" is one big star and the surrounding five smaller stars). Therefore, each row would have 2 double star layouts and 2 single star layouts. I could just do the sashing border stars on the vertical sashing and not the horizontal sashing. I suppose I could remove the double star layout in this photo and forget about it completely, or change to a single star layout, but either option means ripping out even more stitches (you wouldn't believe what I've already ripped out trying to get this quilt done).
Or I can leave it as is and go on with my original plan ... but I think that might be too much. At the very least I think I should abandon the idea of putting the border stars in the horizontal sashing.
What would you do?

I like the stars, all of them. I think they make the quilt look more whimsical, and that is what Dr. Seuss was all about.
How did you do the stars?

Skratchie,
You must do as you think best, it is your quilt and your vision
For myself, I am crazy about those stars, all of them. They look so natural that I had to make sure they weren't in the fabric rather than the quilting.

I agree - the stars are just perfect for the Seuss fabric!

Hehehehe ... here's the thing about my quilting. I'm very ... ummmmm ... eclectic? I buy fabric I like and then I come up with an idea of how I'm going to use it. This one was pretty easy - panels need sashing. I did another Seuss quilt that isn't finished yet, that was just too busy (that one is Cat in the Hat). The craziness of all the different fabrics drives me a little nuts, so when I started this quilt, I thought, it needs a solid. Hence the green solid sashing every other block. Then I thought, well, I like the green and orange combination, so I ordered the inner border fabric. I knew that I would use the green eggs fabric for the outer border because my friend requested that the green egg fabric be focal, so fortunately, that was a no-brainer. But the quilting I wasn't so sure about. I started with a decorative stitch and got it about halfway down the quilt and realized I hated it. So I spent three days ripping all of that out.
I guess my point is, I don't really HAVE a vision when I start a quilt. I let it come to me as it presents itself. I used to be much better at having an idea of what I wanted a quilt to be, and sticking to it. These days, though ... pfft. I'm just lucky to use most of the fabrics I buy for a quilt - it changes and evolves so much during the process, I have quite the stash!
Most of the time I'm pretty confident when the insanity takes hold and guides me through a quilt, but every so often I wonder ... have I stepped off the deep end with this one? When it's a quilt I'm going to gift to someone, or for myself, I don't usually worry to much about that deep end. But when it's something that someone is paying for ... well, yeah, I get a little paranoid that someone else won't see my insanity as genius or talent or vision, but maybe they'll just see it as ... you know, insanity.
But since folks seem to like it, I will go on with it. I think the stars really fit with Dr Seuss myself!

I think it's cool! Plus it reminds me of "all of the Sneetches with stars upon thars".

I have to agree, the stars just FIT this quilt! All of them

If you want to make your quilting pop you should stitch in the ditch. I would suggest that you do both the green border, and the red border and it will not only make the borders pop but stabilize your quilt. This should be done before you do any FMQ.
Why not stitch around the yellow dots for an even more dimension.

I would like to see the entire top.
I lay my smaller quilts over the sofa (no one sits on it anyway unless we have company) and look at it for a day or so.
Larger ones I hang with 3M strips and do the same "quilt" watch.
And then, there are times when just out of the blue a brilliant idea pops into my head.
Other than all of the above, the quilt seems to be entertaining and moves the eye all about....at least from what I can make out.

I love the stars, and would LOVE to know how you did them!? Did you draw them and trace?
