Hello,
In my box of accessories I found a needle plate I can not tell what it is for. It fits my vintage futura 920 but it is not described in the futura manual. It has only one whole for the needle to get in but no holes for the dog feet. Also it has four hooks. I ll try to post an image:

Any idea what is it for?

If your sewing machine does not let you lower the feed dogs, this plate may accomplish the same thing, should you wish to freehand sew or darn.

My machine comes with yet another plate that is a little bit raised and it is called the darning/embroidery plate.
The weird thing about the plate I posted about is the four hooks (2 in each side) that I can not think what they are for. The only idea I had is maybe to secure a button? But a large button does not really fit underneath.

I think you might have photographed the bottom of the plate. Try flipping it over. It looks like the needle hole is wide enough for a zigzag. Could this be the needle plate for the Professional Buttonholer or Monogramer? As far as I can tell the 4 "hooks" go underneath and just help stablize the plate.

The other posters are both right...it's the cover plate for button sewing and free motion sewing...and it's upside down.

Does your sewing machine have its manual? The online pdf manual from singerco.com shows illustration #15 on page #3 the cover plate right side up. Link: Futura 920 manual

Thank you. I do have the plate (#15) and it is different. However you are right. I put it upside down in the machine and it fits. It is just a little higher than plate #15 which does have holes for the feed dogs but it is slightly raised so the feed dogs do not touch the fabric.

I think that plate was probably an earlier version of a darning/button plate and then they made #15 that is lower and thus easier to work with.
