I had not heard of the designer Charles James whose work is considered to be ground breaking until recently. He had a relatively short career, about 33 years, and was all but forgotten, except by a few fans. He was a perfectionist who reworked his designs until he was satisfied which impeded his output: only about 2000 dresses over his career.
In this weeks The New Yorker there is a very interesting article about him that anyone who is interested in the history of fashion should read.

I have the New Yorker article and looking forward to reading it. He made some beautiful and amazingly architectural dress. I would love to be able to see an exhibition do his dresses, be up close to them and see the construction details. But it is amazing how much we can find online now, isn't it?!

Enjoyed the read and the video. Thanks for sharing. Inspiring, hope someday one of my creations ends up in a museum.

Thank you so much for posting the link to the New Yorker article. It is fascinating. I'll buy the magazine and keep the print version in my files. (I know - print - how old fashioned.).

I'm even more excited now about seeing the Met exhibit when I'm in NYC this summer.

Thanks for this. After an enjoyable surf through the Internet, I checked my Amazon points and lo and behold, I had enough to get the exhibition catalog. Cheaper than flying to New York!
