I'm wanting to make my daughter a ruffled skirt that doesn't wrinkle (needs to be twill type). I'm thinking the material they use for jumpers and pleated skirts would be best... something that doesn't wrinkle when pulled from the dryer, stain resistant, etc. Having a hard time finding something in town... what should I be looking for in town? When I look at the labels of the stuff I like, I'm seeing poly/cotton and some cotton/rayon blends. I've heard gabardine or cotton drill. Any suggestions? Where can I buy?

I think a cotton poly blend would be the most durable and wrinkle resistant. Blue Desert Company has good quality uniform type fabric. I have ordered the "lite poplin" which is the weight one might imagine a uniform shirt to be. I used some darker colors for scrub pants for my DD but the lighter colors were a bit see through for pants. I used the "lite" shirt weight poplin because she wanted lighter weight pants. I also used the poly cotton twill for a lab coat for her and that fabric was really nice although maybe a bit sturdy for a ruffled skirt.

Chain fabric stores tend to have that sort of material. I used the stuff Joann's sells to make a few casual kilts a few years ago. Worked fine, didn't wrinkle (too much, still needed touching up sometimes), wore well. A cotton poly blend will wrinkle less, and a good one won't feel awful.

Generally speaking, a twill is unlikely to make up satisfactorily into a ruffled skirt. Ruffled skirt patterns are usually designed for a lighter fabric, like quilting cotton or lighter. Bottom-weight twills will not gather easily and the result could feel stiff and boardy. On the other hand, if you can find some khaki colored twill "shirting" fabric (especially in a cotton/poly mix) that would probably work pretty well as a ruffled skirt, though it would not be as durable as the bottom-weight fabrics.

Measure twice, cut once. While this saying is useful in many ways, I have no qualms about editing my posts.
