Cordless Iron...what kind? (Moderated by Sharon1952)
Posted on: 6/19/14 2:38 PM ET
I hope I am in the right category. I am looking to get a cordless iron...Anyone have one that you love? Some of them are smaller and I want a larger one... normal size. THe (cord) iron I have now is about 35 years old! Works great, but with my sewing room set up... I have it plugged in and can use it at my pressing table, but to use it on the ironing board for clothes, I have to unplug and haul everything out to the hallway and in near dark, Iron there! So.. I need a cordless iron...Please tell my what you personally recommend! Thank you!

I've owned and used a Proctor Silex off and on for several years. It is a full size iron. I always use distilled water.

I LOVE my Panasonic. It comes with a pretty turquoise clear top and a retractable cord on the base. It has never let me down and I've had it for years. I have a "shoe" on it so I use it on HIGH most of the time. If I have a stubborn wrinkle I take the shoe off. It stays hot fo all iron and pressing applications and I LOVE not having the darn cord in my way. It has 3 heat settings that seem adequate for me...In comparison I would say it does not get as hot as my old iron but for me that is just as well, I've never scorched anything. I hope they still sell it. :)

Hi coffeebreak,
I have had a Panasonic cordless iron for 7 years, and am very happy with it. It's never given me any trouble, doesn't spit or leak, but it does have automatic shutoff, which I don't like. It says it can use regular tap water, but our well water has a lot of iron, so I do use distilled water.
I couldn't find a local retailer, so bought it from the Panasonic website for around $65. Maybe that's not the cheapest price, but it performs well, and I'm very happy with it.
I love my cordless, and would hate to go back to having one with a cord. Hope you find one you like.
