I'm making a dress out of some sort of Taffeta--so I picked up a box of #22 Dressmaker pins at my local Joanns--probababy Dritz.
Trouble is, they seem awfully dull... Did I pick up the wrong variety for my fabric, or is it a manufacturing defect?

This happened to me last week... I bought 2 containers of Singer glass head silk pins and they were dull... making a popping sound in the fabric... I returned them... a lady in line heard me telling the cashier why I am returning them and she chimed in to say they are knitting pins... She said the dull point pins are for pinning knitting pieces together... How would anyone know... no where on the package does it state this...

I have found dollar store pins to be dull enough to give to an infant to play with. My older pins...the ones I inherited, are sharp ( if they aren't rusty)

Most pins sold at JoAnn are very dull! It's a wonder they can even be called sewing pins.
Clover Silk Pins are very nice, I use them for almost everything. I think I have seen them at a JoAnn store in the last year or so but I may be imagining that.

Try Fons and Porter pins in their quilting products.

I use only IBC pins. They have glass heads and are nice and fine. They believe they are available at Annie's and Amazon. You can google sources.
I agree - The pins at the big box stores are terrible.

I will second the recommendation for IBC pins. They're the only ones I've used for the past 30 or so years--or whenever Clotilde first recommended them. They never disappoint.
ETA: I think I got them last time from Createforless.com. I always shop around online for the best price.

Those pins might be fatter pins, thus giving resistance when being pushed thru fabric. Once I started using the IBC glass head pins from Clotilde (not the only vendor anymore) I never went back to the Dritz and similar brands---they now get used for making draperies..

I looked on Amazon. There are several choices. Which size is the best/most useful!
I hate the pins I have been using today. The are so dang dull!
