I went to one of my local Bernina dealers to buy a presser foot and I very nearly left with a new 710!!!! Ahhhhh … I could love that machine. If the 710 would have fit into the cabinet I already own, I probably would have bought it. When I upgrade my machine, I'll have to upgrade my cabinet also and that would add quite a bit to the cost. All the way home, I alternated between congratulating and castigating myself for NOT buying the machine.

Oh well

You know you could buy the machine and then buy the new cabinet down the road. Then you could enjoy the machine in the interim.

That would have been a very expensive impulse buy. I'm glad you came home empty-handed. It will give you time to really think about it. Do you already have Bernina feet that would fit on it? For as much as this machine costs, it doesn't have a low bobbin indicator.

I have this mental image of you driving with a devil on one shoulder and angel on the other, and both of them trying to grab the wheel!
Give yourself a week, and if you can't get over it, you might have to go back there!

Good for you for not buying the 710. It will be there when you have had time to mull, and test, and maybe even look at the 750.
Compare the two and then walk away again. If nags at you and wont let go ......

i love my 710 and it has been all I wanted. I considered pretty carefully what I wanted and didn't think that the extras on the 750 were worth that much more to me. I had a 440 with the BSR and thought I FM quilted better without it. The low bobbin indicator was not a biggie as I was told it gave about 5 inches of thread worth of notice (maybe that has been fixed) and extra stitches that my history told me I would never use. I don't embroider any more so the possibility of adding it had no allure either. The one thing I thought was nice to have was the small light in the bobbin area but not worth the extra money. I have a tiny flash light ($5.00) that I keep handy just in case.
Think what you do and think about what you think you might want to do with a new 700 machine and that will help you make your decision. They all make awesome button holes! I make some garments, make quilts and do my own quilting, do the occasional purse, repair stuff, the usual things. I love to free motion embroidery or thread painting. These machines seem to be able to take that kind of abuse. My machine is in a cabinet but the slide on table seems pretty large for using on a table. I also have a small Activa 230 to share feet with. (and 2 older mechanicals that I can't share feet with) Enjoy the search.

Well you might be surprised about the cabinet. I bought a friend's 2006 Koala SewMate III, and my 780 fits in there. It clears the sides going down, too. The only problem is the height. It's just about an inch too tall for me to fold the top flat if I wanted to close it up. I think that platform is about 21 + inches long.
I have gotten a heftier lift for it. That may be all you need to do. I didn't think the 7 series would fit in the wells of the sewing counter, either. But it does. JUST fits, but it fits!
My sewing counter is 20" long. The reason the 7 series fits and no other larger style machine would, is because the outlet for the plug is situated higher, so it clears the well. No space needed for the cord - and that's usually at least 1 1/2 to 2 inches. The only space needed was about a half an inch for the foot pedal, which I have exactly.
I agree though, to give yourself some time. Go to the Bernina website (though I'm sure you have already), and find out what dual feed feet come with it.
Do let us know if you decide to purchase!
