Have you tried the newer version of the Flynn Free Motion Quilting System?

Looks like it might be great for making up your own quilted fabrics for clothing, crafts, purses, etc. as well as for quilts.

I have seen it advertised on Amazon, eBay and Nancy's Notions... The tutorial that accompanies the ad makes it sound like it is very, very easy to operate.

The reason I'm asking is that I am thinking of buying one for myself for home use.

P.S. I accidently put this inquiry in the embroidery section first and re-doing it in the quilting section... A senior citizens slip up...

I do not know anything about it. I see it is from Nancy's Notions. Good company to deal with.

Maybe you can find some reviews some other place on it. There were 4 reviews on NN site.

Maybe someone else knows something about it. Anyone?

Currently working on a boys quilt. Sized 40 x 40 inches. It has chickens, chicken eggs, cows, fish, sea life, afield with water, Dachshunds, mini sailboats, and many colorful other fabrics. The blocks are a 4 x 4 finished size, so many of them are needed.
This my 4th quilt in 7 months.

Bernina 630, Bernina embroidery module, Pfaff 2036, Bernina 1200DA serger, Unique Sewing Cabinet 450L

These are very often available of SewItsForSale, a free yahoo group for buying and selling sewing items, for $50-90 used or second hand but new. That's where I bought mine. Not sure if mine is old or "new and improved". I have only used it to load quilts on, then baste in preparation for quilting in a lap hoop.

I did baste a smaller/baby quilt on it by machine. Only did that once, so no chance to improve with practice, but it was awkward. Now, once I got the layers loaded, hand-basting with thread was fast, easy, and more comfortable on the Flynn frame than with the layers taped to a table.

I think it would be very easy to hand quilt on the Flynn frame, with it properly supported, but it was easier for me to default to basting on the frame and quilting with a lap hoop.

I'm sorry I don't have much experience machine quilting with the Flynn frame to share with you, but I bought mine knowing that it would be *at least* useful for basting if machine quilting with it didn't work for me.

The advice I can share is to look for one used, so if it doesn't work for you, it won't have cost much.

The only "new and improved" I can see are the large red PVC pipes on each side.

I must have purchased the original as my husband came up with the PVC attached to strips of wood so they were the right height and would not roll off the table.

Like any of these "gadgets" you need room (like a banquet table) and a sewing machine with a long/large harp as when you advance the quilt, the rolled finished area gets larger and larger and will not allow as much room for quilting as when the project was first started.
