Can anyone tell me if there is a particular name for the woven 100% cotton fabric that golf shirts or tennis shirts are made from. I have been tasked with lengthening a sporty dress out of that fabric. The label says 100% cotton but there is a definite weave to it. Thanks (:

Try looking on the label of the rtw shirt to see what the fabric content is. I've always wondered myself.
You might find the fabric on Mood listed by designer fabric. I'll be interested to see if anyone else has an idea.

I agree with Ms Charisma, it's probably pique. Jut remember tho that pique can come in a number of different styles (bird's eye, waffle weave, etc) so you may have to do a little digging to find exactly what you want.

Hmm, I'm a little confused. I've never seen a woven golf or tennis shirt - they're all knits. Not sure what kind of fabric you're referring to.

I have a couple of golf shirts and they are all cotton pique but of various weaves, my pink one is so light and soft you could use the fabric on a baby.
Most cotton polo shirts that I have seen are pique.

When looking for pique keep this in mind: Knit pique is usually what golf shirts are made from. Woven pique is a textured woven fabric usually used for spring and summer women's and girl's clothing.

I'm with Clt. Can you post a link/photo to what you mean?
As other posters have pointed out, there is a KNIT pique and a WOVEN pique, and they won't really behave the same. Knit pique is more common in RTW; woven is easier to find in fabric stores. (And to confuse matters even more--altho' you'll NEVER see a tennis shirt made from it--I actually bought some VELVET pique last year! It made a lovely big hat. :)).

I can't imagine any active sports clothing these days being made of a woven 100% cotton. If it was a weave it would have lots of lycra so it could move with the body. So like everyone else here, I expect your fabric is knitted.
