I'm new in Columbus and am looking for sewing companions and advisors. I thought it might be interesting to attend Ohio Make It With Wool Nov. 1 at the state fairgrounds to cheer on the competitors, meet others who like sewing with wool, and possibly find a sewing teacher willing to give individual lessons. Are any of you planning to go to this event? Have you ever been in the past? Do you think this could be a good way to find a teacher?

It sounds like it would be a good place to find others with the same interests (sewing). Sewing expos usually include many vendors as well as teachers.

I've never been to a Make It With Wool competition, but I don't think it would be classified as a sewing expo. Although I would suppose the sponsors would have booths with information and maybe merchandise.

Yes, I did go. I was pretty impressed with several coats. The winner in the adult division did an amazing job with a dress and coat that were constructed beautifully and also flattered her wonderfully. She had won the national Make It With Wool competition in the adult division in 2008, and if I understand correctly, this was the first year she was allowed to compete again. She will go to Reno, Nevada for the 2015 national competition in January. I'll be curious to see how she does.
I just looked at the Ohio Make It With Wool Facebook page, but photos have not been posted yet of the state winners.
The Make It With Wool competition was a whole day for the contestants, but the fashion show mid-afternoon was the only part of interest to the public. I was part of a very small but enthusiastic audience.
I spoke with the state coordinator after the prizes were given out and told her I was thinking about taking part next year. I love sewing with wool anyway and have tackled some ambitious projects. I might be ready to work at a higher level of skill. Even if I didn't win anything, I'd feel richly rewarded for trying.
