My local Hancocks never put out the Butterick patterns release from 3 or so weeks ago. And the catalog they have on the floor is the late summer one...they are two releases behind on the catalog at this point.

They are up-to-date on Vogue and, while not yet having the latest McCall's release, it's still rather early to have that one out. So, it's not a Hancocks vs. the McCall Company thing.

I asked last night if there was a problem...of course it was fleece frenzy time (seriously...the best quality they have was just over $2/yard with a coupon) and none of the workers claimed to know anything.

I was wondering if anyone else is seeing these problems at other Hancocks locations?

Aw :/

My Hancock is so awesome that I don't even bother going to JoAnn for patterns half the time.

They ALWAYS have them right away. Like, every single time. Even if they are released during a sale or if a sale occurs right after.

Maybe ask to talk to the manager?? That's so frustrating.

I actually drove 2 hours to go to Hancock's a couple of weeks ago and they had the new patterns. I love that store.

I have this problem (just with Buttericks) at my local Joanns. I talked to an employee about it, and she said that the pattern companies rent space, so to speak, and they are the ones who determine when the patterns arrive, not Joanns. This could be inaccurate, but it does seem that Butterick ix the worst for this. The other brands are much more timely.

I am willing to bet that the patterns are in a box in the back room and somehow are swimming among all the Christmas boxes back there and sort of lost.

For both stores, it often has to do with who is working in them, and even if they are full time or only part time workers sometimes. Also if, the management, is trying to hold out and back patterns, that are on special sale until after the sale. I think they sometimes don't bother to put out the newest ones, if the $1.99 or $3.99 sale is is going to be over in a day or two, and instead wait for that, as it is better for them then!

Sometimes you can find them though, laying on a counter or underneath one someplace, if so I just help myself. They have always let me do that, if I just happen to see and find themIf they are actually there, and in a back room where no, non- employees are allowed to go, or know about though, nothing you can do about that.

One Joann's I go to, is always at least 2 weeks more current out on the floor and in the drawers than the other one, and they are only less than 10 miles apart. But just have different managers and working schedules (and styles, obviously) for themselves and people in their employ even. Unfortunate for me though, the one closest to me, is the one most likely to hold back and also assigned the task of putting in the drawers I think to the person that works maybe the least amount of hours even! But, if not out at one place, then I most times go to some other one even. this has nothing to do with when posted on the internet though, that always posted on the pattern companies websites, before any fabric stores have them, by a week or way more ever, as far as I can tell.

The stores don't have anything to do with the pattern sales....the pattern companies put on the sales so, there's no reason for a store to hold the patterns in back til after the sale. That's why you'll go in a fabric store the night before a sale starts & the sale signs for fabric, notions, etc are being put up (& you'll get the posted sale price as soon as the signs are up) BUT the pattern sale signs are never put out until we lock the doors for the night....the store would take the loss for the sale because the pattern company will NOT honor the sale price until the days that they're putting on the sale.

I've taken care the pattern dept. in 3 fabric stores....currently a Hancock's & they're put out the 1st day I work after they arrive but, I'll agree....some stores are VERY lax about putting the new patterns in the drawers & they probably are in the back.

At one of the Joann's I shop in, they will even let me come the day before any pattern sale and pull a patern and put a pattern on hold, with my name on it, at the front counter the day before the sale (as long as less than a 24 hour hold) and then drive back, and pick it up the next day, when it is really on sale. they actually suggested that to me once. Don't everyone do that at aonce though, or you might have "my" patterns! But that is how I call dibbsThe other, more disorganized Joann's I will not even ask for that there, as I think it might get lost or go missing, no mater what, even if they tried to do that. So good employees and motivated ones, I think are the key to good shopping probably, just anyplace. How do you motivate them, not really sure, but paying enough and treating them well, probably goes a long way towards that and in chain store, I think that can vary, by management just there probably too sometimes. Also by how the customer acts sometimes too maybe. The nicer the better I think works better.
