I am getting ready to cut out an outfit for my daughter using some stretch crushed panne. This fabric intimidates me, as it seems very different from what I'm used to sewing with. Any tips on sewing with it and any of it's quirks would be appreciated, before I cut into this pretty fabric and pull my hair out.

This fabric has a tendency to slide, roll and creep. Using a walking foot, if you have one, will help. Also, using sticky basting tape to ensure your fabric feeds evenly would also help.

Since this fabric usually is pretty stretchy, you might want to reinforce the shoulder seam (if the garment you are making has one) with either twill tape or clear elastic.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you make!

It's easier than "real" velvet, IMO. I never had big problems with creeping and sliding, but man, those edges love to roll!

It's stretchy but I usually allow more ease than most knits I sew with. It can be a bit ummm, "hoochie mama" if too snug. The shine of the velvet shows off every imperfection, know what I mean?

I've had some problems with slipping. I found that using a walking foot really helps. I agree with Nanflan that it is easier than "regular" velvet. I haven't needed a roller foot like I do with silk velvet.

One of my reviews with this fabric: Panne Velvet Top

I haven't ever used a walking foot, but maybe I've just been lucky. I do tend to use a lot of pins. I especially like the long flower-head ones.

Thanks everybody...I was kinda thinking there would probably be a slide, roll, curl factor involved. It looks like I'm gonna need to invest in a walking foot before I even try to sew with this. I have a few pieces of this type fabric, and my dd just loves the way it looks; guess i'll get the walking foot and jump right in!
