I'm trying to do a rolled hem on a flounce peplum on my serger but am not having much success with nice stitches. It does great on the cross grain, but with the pattern piece (which is like small-scale full circle skirt) the grain changes from lengthwise to bias to crosswise in each quadrant. Any suggestions? TIA

Do a test using differential feed when the fabric becomes "temperamental".

You may also need to lighten the presser foot pressure.

Some things you could try:

Starch it stiffer first.

Sew a bit, a way from the raw edge with small stitches on a straight stitch sewing machine first, then when roll hemming only let the knives cut close to but not into that.

Attempt to add something into your overlocker rolled hem, so it's not all by it's lonesome self there, maybe a piece of tiny round elastic, just some serger thread chain, fishing line, clear wash a way stabilizer or just anything.

Decide you want a pulled on, and ruffly, more stretched out on purpose, lettuce kind of rolled hem, and try to force it to do that instead, by really pulling on it and stretching it.

I'd try stay stitching being careful not to distort it and then rolling the hem, trying it first on a sample.
