I have a couple of yards of the fusible lofty Thermolam and was wondering if it should be backed with another fabric (muslin?) when using with a cotton face fabric for quilting? I'm making an appliance cover (large mixer). The cover will be washed in a washing machine and I was worried about how it would hold up if I didn't back it with something. The lofty Thermolam is probably too thick for what I'm using it for, but I have it in stock/stash.

Every time I have used it, it was as a "sandwich". I would not be comfortable not having something surrounding it. I would use the muslin.

I thought I should sandwich it, but the Thermolam directions don't say anything about it........strange. You'd think they would, because when people quilt with the poly or cotton batting, they sandwich it.
