I'm afraid I'll strip those little screws that secure the metal plate under the pressor foot. Any advice on how to get it off? My dealer is 75 miles away. Thanks for any help!

Add a tiny drop of sewing machine oil to each screw where it meets the plate. Give the oil a minute to penetrate to the screw threads, then try again.

To prevent this in future, once or twice a year dab a tiny dot of SM oil to the screw threads. HTH!

You're welcome. It may take a couple tries. If it still won't budge, you can use WD40, but sewing machine oil is very safe for the machine and is always my first pick.

If this doesn't work, don't blame me because it's DH's idea! In addition to the oil, make sure you are using the proper size of screwdriver that fits the screw slot. Try a hairdryer for some heat, but not so much that it melts any surrounding plastic. Good luck! I sure hope you don't have to travel 75 miles for a couple of stuck screws!

I've had my overlocker for 20 years and I've never removed the plate under the needles.

As with sewing machines, the plate should be removed regularly for cleaning out the fuzz build-up.

I had a sewing machine like this. The factory tightened up the screws too much. I couldn't get it but my son could-do you have a strong man around who can get it? I am like the other poster though who said she had never removed the metal plate on the serger. I haven't either but my serger opens up completely so I can get all the fuzz.

The video had good tips. I would be tempted to use a vacuum cleaner, but put a nylon over the intake so that I don't accidentally suck up something important.

Your cleaning sergers link did not work for me.

Oh well . . . I can remove a lot of things on my Bernina sergers and do so from time to time. I always use a vacuum cleaner to suck the lint out.
