The closest fabric store to me has a membership program.
Wondering if it's worth it?
$30. for one year.

What are the benefits? Do they offer a discount that you can use to help offset the membership cost? Do you buy enough items there to justify the expense? Are there other benefits to joining that you think you would use?

I'm assuming you are talking about fabricland, so I will say that if you plan to spend more than $100 per year there then yes, it is worth it.
The discounts apply to members only and 40-50% off sales are very common. I usually won't purchase anything there unless it is marked down at least 40%. Also with the canadian dollar on the decline, purchasing online isn't quite as feasible as it used to be. Vogue butterick and mccalls patterns regularly go on sale for much less than their sticker prices (vogue sales are now $9, Butterick $5.50 and mccalls $5) and burda occasionally go for 50% off. Watch the flyers and sales notices and only buy what you need when it is on sale unless you REALLY need it.
ETA: If you give them your email address it's $5 off the yearly membership.

I have bought fabriclands memberships since forever. And I have to agree with Liamsmamma about the discounts. Also, I think that all fabric is always 30% off with a membership, so that is nice as well. I think I pay off my membership with one shopping trip.
I know their membership fees just went up which kind of sucks, but it is still worth it, I think.

Browsed the store, spoke with a clerk about my plans & discussed membership benefits.
Bought the membership & received 2 for one one spools of thread and 50% off a cotton filler for my camping blankets.
Spent $60. (incl. m/ship) saved $32.!

If you went today, it was a great day to go. They had a 50% - 70% off everything in the store. I had to hold myself back......need to sew that stash.

Gina, I've learned from my scrapbooking hobby ~ only one project at at a time, start to finish.
Yes, I was there today.
Spools of thread & cotton batting filler for my camping chair blankets.

I SOOOO wanted to go today too but I got mired in other stuff. Oh well, next one. I've had my Fabricland membership forever too, and I agree, it's paid for itself many times over.

I shop in Penticton and Kelowna and found that in Penticton at least, most of their fabrics were $20.00/meter. I let my membership go last Dec. and now shop online. I like www.fabricmartfabrics.com, and you can order the Julies Pick fabric samples, which come every month. Also, www.fabric.com I am sure there are others. yes, we pay exchange, but it is still worth it. It has been a long time since I paid any duty at the border.
