I've been considering getting a Sew Steady table, but their pricing is really high. It seems to me that with some acrylic, adjustable feet, glue, some elbow grease and some know how it should cost significantly less. Youtube has videos on glueing acrylic, and it seems straight forward enough. So, has anyone make their own table and if so how did you do it? Are their any tricks or suggestions? Also, where did you get the adjustable feet?

A few years ago I made a cap hoop insert for my Janome embroidery machine out of acrylic sheeting. It was the first time I had used this so was pretty much trial and error, but it turned out OK and as you've mentioned, soooo much cheaper than the genuine item. I used regular woodworking tools....jigsaw/sander/etc.

Then I bought a sheet of acrylic to make an extension table for my Janome CoverPro but due to moving house a couple of times, it's been put aside. However I bought some height adjustable legs on eBay but can't remember the name of the seller, or if they still sell them.

You can cut a broom handle or 25mm dowel to make the legs, but then you can't adjust the height, then these legs from the UK might suit? It really depends what suits you.

Wood Central Table

Rose Lewis Table

Vogue Extension Table

Horn Legs

Also check eBay as there are quite a few used extension tables that 'might' fit your machine....even if they don't and the selling price is cheap enough, you might want to buy that table just for the legs, or you might want to re-cut the machine opening.

I made a temporary extension table for the CoverPro using a white poly chopping board which cost $2 and cut 25mm dowel for the legs, but it wasn't stable so needs to be made from something heavier, such as acrylic sheeting.

Anyway, hope some of this helps!

The Vogue table *IS* Sew Steady. They are sold in several places and are well worth the money - one really good source is Nancy's Notions, but SewVacDirect and so on sell them as well. By the time you make it you will have spent a lot of time and effort for probably a less smooth and flawless product.

You should be able to make your own, but you might want to cost (price) materials and any tools you would need to purchase for the project (and consider your time, too!).

Nancy's Notions has a sale on the Sew Steady tables at the moment - so depending on the cost of materials/tools/time, it might be more cost effective to get a Sew Steady one.
