I need to underline a lightweight silk charmeuse full length bias skirt. I already invested $100 on organza so I'm hoping this will work. But I am worried now that it will pucker. What is your experience in using organza to underline charmeuse?

I love silk organza but I wouldn't use it to underline a silk charmeuse bias skirt. The fabrics are too different and the organza will interfere with the drape.

No underlining for bias! No matter what you do, the two layers will fight each other. And this goes double for charmeuse, which tends to behave a bit like a knit anyhow. Mating it with organza would be a disaster.

If you desperately need a lining, attach a free-hanging underskirt at the waist.

What is your reason for needing to underline the charmeuse?

My reason for underlining is because the charmeuse is too thin. Even with a lining you can see everything! Also I thought it would help keep the seems from puckering and I could hem the bottom to the underlining.

Make a slip to wear under it. Most of the charmeuse skirts I have seen have had several layers of the fabric plus the lining. I would not try to underline it either.

Thanks everyone for responding. I've decided not to cut it on the bias and do Marie's suggestion of several layers of free hanging layers.

It's a floor length gown with the bodice and midriff constructed with lace (backed with the charmeuse). I'll post pictures when it's done.
