I purchased a Reliable 100 iron from allbrands in December.
As I was waiting for it to heat up yesterday to do some pressing, I noticed smoke coming out of it. Not steam, smoke. I quickly unplugged it, and put it outside the house, where it continued to smoke for quite some time.
I shudder to think what might have happened had I left the room, as I normally do, whilst it warmed up.

I emailed allbrands, and though they were sorry to hear what happened, they were going to inform the manufacturer and see what they wanted to do regarding replacement/refund.

I'll keep you posted.

Very lucky catch. I hope they resolve it. It would be nice if they wanted it so they could see what failed. Prevention. But that is just wishful thinking.

It probly had a weak connection and it over heated causing it to smoke. They are good irons. Do you have your sheet of instructions that came with.
There should be a phone no so you could call them. They should replace the iron you had it less then a year.

Good call on getting it outside. I'm going to put a smoke detector for the sewing space on the to do list. Thanks for letting us know about this.
