leaving loose screw in bottom of machine (Moderated by Deepika)
Posted on: 12/9/15 0:15 AM ET
I have an Ellisimo BLSO, the original Ellisimo. Working with the needle plate the other day, one of the little screws fell down into the machine. My husband and I worked for a long time using various methods to retrieve the screw to no avail. I have a lot of sewing I need to finish for Christmas. The other screw holds everything in place securely. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this mishap and how they got the screw out. Also, should it be safe to go ahead and sew with the screw down in the bottom of the machine. Any suggestions appreciated.

I usually just unplug the machine and turn it upside down and shake until it comes out.

Turn off and unplug machine and use a magnetic screw driver

I wouldn't use a magnetic screw driver.

I'm not familiar with this machine, but it's a Baby Lock, right? Is there any chance they included that little slide-out drawer thingy that's in their sergers? The one they put to retrieve dropped needles? I would never in a million years have found that feature on my own, unless my dealer pointed it out to me.

On my 145 travel machine, it was light enough to tip over so the screw became visible. I did not use anything magnetic but got the screw out.
Best wishes to you.

I think the machine has too many computerized little parts to turn it upside down & shake.
If you can't access the screw easily, I'd run to the dealer & let them do it. Call ahead & you may be able to wait there while they get it out.
I wouldn't sew with it either. I'm not familiar with the innards of a computerized machine. I wouldn't want the screw to be stuck somewhere that causes greater damage as the machine sews.
Run it in to the dealer.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. My husband did turn it upside down and shook it gently. No luck. We could hear it moving around. I did sew on it today. I'll run it to the dealer within the next few days.

Whoo! With "Loose screw" as a title, I was afraid someone was talking about *me*
Chances are, if it's down in the base of the machine, it's not going to interfere with anything. Knowing how crazy the dealers get just before the holiday season, you may find yourself machineless unless someone takes pity on you for such a small fix. Might want to call before you haul it in.

Can you just take the bottom off and let it fall out? Not familiar with this machine, but I've done this!
