Re: Pattern manipulation techniques! (posted on 1/25/16 3:44 PM ET)
Hello!
I have been in situations where I haven't known how to draft certain things because I just didn't know how, or the books didn't make sense. I'm still learning of course and I'm by no means an expert but I thought I'd share the little knowledge I have gained.
The strapless bodice I drafted below basically took me forever to learn because I was just missing out on stuff that seem so simple and obvious now and so I give to you my tutorials to help those of you who are just missing that little something.
I hope they help! I don't have a lot up but I'm working on it :D

Some help please guys.
I'm at a point where I have no idea what sort of things I could make every week (and I've only made 3 things!). I feel like if I create a tutorial on a certain items of clothing, I would have created something I wouldn't necessarily wear any time soon. I usually create clothes on demand but if I'm making something bi-weekly, where would I wear them to?! I don't go out anywhere so I just don't know.
Also need advice, do you think it's advisable to at least show the process of sewing the pattern pieces together (maybe just a few images?) because at the moment, I'm only showing people how to manipulate basic blocks because I'm assuming they know the basics to constructing garments.

Oh doll--you post anything you think will be helpful to someone. We're all here to learn any/everything! I, personally will never be able to do one of these strapless beauties, but I will so enjoy knowing that somewhere there is a younger gal learning how and sewing something for herself that will be fantastic!
Thank you,
Thank you,

Doha,
Thank you for the videos you have made so far. I have enjoyed them. All of these types of videos provide me with great ideas, even if I don't copy them exactly. I am particularly inspired by drafting exercises that help me to copy current trends. I don't have a lot of need for formal wear, but would like to make more items that I can wear everyday, but which have more style or detailing that makes them current.
I can't speak for others, but I don't really need to see how to sew them together...to me it seems like if you are drafting patterns, you probably already understand the construction and how the pieces need to fit together.
Thanks again for you generous posts.

I agree with Laurasews. If you'd like to make a separate sewing tutorial, that's OK, but I wouldn't combine that with drafting tutorial since there will be very few viewers who would want to see both. Well, maybe if there is a particular tricky bits, you could include a few tips.

I for one will appreciate anything you can show us, we never stop learning. But it is true that you can find many tutorials on sewing, not so much about drafting. I'd be particularly interested in adaptations – I am drafting a moulage (or trying to), but how do I use it to draft a blouse or a jacket? I can't find a jacket pattern that fits and lately I've been sewing with knits to avoid fitting problems. So maybe if you feel to do one of these…

You've all said really lovely and useful things! Thank you, I appreciate it
I think I'll definitely exclude sewing from the vids. This is also a learning curve for me, so it'll give me the confidence to try and draft new and complex things while helping people.

That's a great video, I'm just at the point where I'm starting to draft my own patterns and it's so useful to see someone else doing it. Very clear and well made video too!
Can I ask which instructions you used to draft the bodice block, or was that something you learned off-line? I've used a few tutorials but still don't feel that my sloper fits me quite perfectly.
P.S. I agree that there's no need to show the actual sewing in a tutorial about drafting, although it might be interesting to have a separate video showing that part of the process.
