Hi all,
I apologize if this is better suited to the Beginner's Forum
I did my first muslin of Deer & Doe's Airelle blouse. For the most part it seems to fit, but it's (I think) a little too long and causing some drag lines as a result.
Not the best picture, but you get the idea.
The pattern doesn't have set lengthening/shortening lines, and the waist darts don't come all the way to the bottom. ( I worry if I don't Line drawing is here) I don't want to take straight from the bottom, as that would skew the distance of the where the waist darts end. Any suggestions on where I should shorten?
FYI the final product I'm doing in lined silk voile, so it should have much better drape than my cotton muslin.

I personally would take them out at the waist, which would mean shortening the darts. Just pinch the fabric into a pleat on the outside and pin it up to where you want it. Then you can transfer it to the pattern.

I'm having a difficult time seeing the darts at the waist, so their length or placement could be causing some problems. The overall length of the blouse looks perfect to me. The blouse does seem to be a bit snug across the chest and in the mid-section. If you were to tuck it in as shown in the pattern photo, I don't think you would have the same amount of blousing as shown in the photo. The pattern photo shows the blouse to be slightly loose fitting - not fitted or over fitted as we have been seeing over the last several years.
I think your drag lines are a fit problem and not a question of the blouse being too long.
If you plan on wearing the blouse loose instead of tucked it, it could of course be shortened if you like, in which case simply removing the length from the bottom would suffice and sshould have no bearing on drag lines.

Hi Spookie -
Sorry for the bad lighting - this is what I get for sewing solo at 10 at night!
The pattern is graded for a size C cup, whereas I tend to wear a size D or higher. Would it be worth going up a size and then doing some grading at the shoulders?
I will likely wear this blouse with a pair of jeans or slacks.

I would baste a waistline tuck in the blouse you have made and then try that on before you move on to other possible alterations.

Your picture will not show up for me, but I did look at the line drawing.
For me, I will often shorten a few inches above the waistline. That will widen where I need it, which is the hips.
But if that all fits well (no puddling at the waist in the back) I will add at the hem.

I tried taking in an inch above the waist, and I'm pleased with the result.
Would you say it's still worth doing an FBA? I see what you're saying about it being tight across the chest.
ETA: I'm really struggling with image sharing websites today, but I *think* this link should work (which compares the two muslins)

I think an FBA would help. You mentioned earlier going up a size and goingading the shoulders, but I wouldn't do that, your shoulders looked good and those are the hardest to me. There might also be a bit of an issue at your back neck as it appears to be standing away from your body, so I would keep an eye 'n that area, too. Again that may just be the photo.
