I've had a Rowenta pressure iron (DG5030) for several years, and today noticed it making its "steaming sound" intermittently while sitting on the stand. I'm pretty sure it's normally quiet and makes sound only during use.

I filled it this morning so thought maybe I just didn't get the valve top back on properly. I turned it off and once cooled removed the valve top and screwed it back in again.

It continued to do the same thing. Additionally, I noticed steam coming out of the valve. Because I'm sewing today and really need the iron, I told myself it probably did that all the time and I just hadn't noticed before. But no, there's definitely a problem because it was completely out of steam a couple hours later.

I suppose this is yet another thing I'll have to replace...
Until then, do you suppose it's safe to continue using? Is the problem limited to running out of steam prematurely or could it actually explode? I'd like to finish my project but that sound and all the steam is kind of freaking me out!

Did you lose a gasket? Did you check the condition of any gaskets for cracks or stiffness?

Me, myself and I, because I know what steam under pressure can do, I'd retire that till Tuesday or so when you can consult with Rowenta.

It's probably safe to dump the water out and use it as a dry iron with a spray bottle or dauber, though. Just leave the steam chamber uncorked.

Maybe the gasket looks a bit loose? Hard to say as I've never looked at it closely before.

Yes, I suppose it would make sense to wait to talk to the Rowenta people before I use it as anything other than a dry iron. And the tank is already empty since all the water steamed out.

Thanks for telling me what I already should have decided on my own. I guess I was turning a blind eye due to the inconvenience ...

I had the same thing happen to me. I thought the iron was haunted.
It ended up where the steam did not work at all. I constantly had to reset the iron. I ended up throwing it away.

It sounds as if its working except for a faulty valve. A bad gasket could be all it is. Cal Rowenta and see what they say. You may also be able to take it to a plumbing supply place and let them see if they stock the correct gasket (pretty cheap). May be a simple fix.

I see Amazon has the whole cap for $19.99. That might be easier than spending time to call Rowenta and having to get the replacement gasket onto the cap.

Update in case anyone else runs across the same issue:
I thought the cap was working -- but I turned it on for a while today and heard the steaming noise. Less steam is leaking out than before, but too much to ignore.

I'll call Rowenta, but will likely be getting a new iron. I really hate paying to replace something I've already paid for once...
