Hello,
A coworker of mine saw me wearing one of the jackets I made using McCalls M7199 pattern, style A.

He wants me to make him one.
I have never sewn anything for a man before but would very much like to try. Does anyone have any suggestions for modifying this pattern? As it is a loose-fitting jacket, I don't think too much will be necessary except I think it should be a little boxier and not nipped in at the waist? I am a little concerned about the bust area obviously too.

Any suggestions or advice is much appreciated!

I've made this too and I'm not sure how the princess seams would translate. However Lekala has a men's pattern with a similar overall style

Lekala

That's a perfect pattern suggestion from KSmithSews! I would definitely find a men's pattern like she suggested, otherwise you might be pulling your hair out with enlarging and modifying your pattern for your friend.

Style arc has one, the Marie Jacket, and I believe it is sold on Amazon and maybe even Etsy. It has fewer seams than the McCalls one has and might be easier to make for a mans figure/

I have way too many yards to count, and I will never use them up, but I will die trying!

I have made the Lekala jacket referred to, and the person it was made for has been extremely pleased with it. Just one tip - put your own very clear markings on the pattern pieces so you don't cut the thing the other way round from the way you intended ...

What did you decide to do? I don't know what made me think about this thread! :)
