Would you get involved? (Moderated by EleanorSews)

The ham and sausage challenge is something that I am thinking about starting. These pressing aids are so useful that they're probably one of the best things you never knew you needed. The materials are so inexpensive and they are way too easy to make so I thought it would be a lovely challenge to get people, of all skill levels, involved in. I'm still trying to gauge interest, so guys, let me know what you think!

I have had this on my list forever and never got around to making them. Just been using a roll of paper towels. So I'm in if you do it!

I have purchase ones, Dritz, I think. They are ok, but the sleeve roll sausage smell weird when it warms with the iron
I love to make things myself, so I might be interested in this. I think I downloaded a pattern from some blog sometime ago, but I'm unsure about the potential and appropriate fillings...untreated wood? What kind, etc.
Thanks for the lovely enticing pics

I might be interested, depending on when you decide to do it. I've been thinking these would be handy to have.

Your photos are gorgeous, I love the fabric you used. I have these notions already, boring purchased ones! However, I will pass on this post to my sewing class colleagues, and some of them may participate.

Yaaaay! I'm so happy you guys want to be involved. I've had a surprisingly large amount of interest! The pattern is finished now, so I'll probably put it up on my blog soon so you can download it. I was thinking we could use hashtags (maybe #hamandsausagechallenge) on social media to show off your hams and also try and get more and more people involved. I'll create instructions to get the ball rolling and I'd love if you could share it amongst other sewing communities so other people can get a chance to join in. Let's start a sewing revolution!

You know that social media can be very sexual, right? I was reminded of this recently when I posted a photo of a bodice muslin on IG. Several non-sewing men started following me.
I would recommend #sewinghamchallenge in order to bypass all the unwanted attention.
And as for the project itself, great idea…except I feel real 100% wool scraps are best because of the hydrophobic nature of wool = maximum steam!
Cotton or other natural fibers will drink the water. And synthetics cannot handle the high heat that a good steaming requires.
I think that's why some of the recent Dritz are not performing well, they might be wool blends.
Good luck!

My ham and sleeve roll are very hard, so don't see how that can happen if stuffed with paper, as it appears in the photo.
