I need some help choosing which blazer pattern to make from the last 18m of Burdastyle mags! I also have a couple of envelope patterns too (a Claire Schaeffer one and another which is petite, but I am not in the mood for major alterations!).

So, I am about a 44 in BurdaStyle so I can go for either misses, plus or tall patterns.

I have some burgundy velvet to make it with, I just can't decide -there are so many nice jacket patterns! I want something that will flatter a full figure and long body and look good with jeans. Any recommendations on the collar? From memory the options are standard blazer, shawl, none, 70s lapels, empire double breasted. Anything I should avoid? I am becalmed in indecision!

This jacket looks pretty close to what I would consider a "true" bomber jacket, but I would not recommend it. Being tall, you could carry it off, but I think the silhouette is trending to more fitted tops.

What about this? It only really suggests a bomber vibe, but it would look so good on you, I think, with the big collar.

This one looks nice. Not too fussy, but it seems to have a nice shape. I love the sleeves.

When I'm stuck with pattern indecision, I do an image search for the type of garment I want to make, and see what speaks to me. Sometimes it's easier to visualize that way. You can look at different styles and say, "No, I don't like that collar," or "I want fewer buttons," or "That relaxed silhouette is really cool..." Etc.

THEN take your RTW inspiration and find the pattern that matches up the best.

Have fun! I, too, have some luscious red velvet in my stash that was originally for a cosplay project that went another direction. It's waiting for the right pattern...

But just throwing this out there, have you seen M7513? It goes up to a 22 (44" bust), but I don't know what that is in Burda.

Have fun!

I thought I missed the bomber reference but I don't think there was one??

Here are the Burda jackets on my 'want' list. caveat: I cannot fit Burda plus on my upper half so I won't ever actually make the plus versions, I just love them :)

12/2016 Plus - truly love the lines of this one.

10/2016 Plus - love the lapels

8/2015 - I've wanted this one since it was released!

3/2016 - I love this and think a soft woven would look so nice.

Otherwise I have patterns on my wish list older than 18 months. Here is another one I came across that's more classic:

That one with the puffed sleeves is SO CUTE! How marvelously Victorian would it look in red velvet!!

I made the 08-2015 Jacket that KSmithSews has given the line drawing for. I made it out of velvet in size 44. My review is here.

It was a lot of work to make it, but I have had so many compliments when I wear it, it was totally worth it. A word of warning though, I did find it slightly on the tight side, probably just tracing the usual 5/8" SA but sewing at 1/2" would have helped.

Look forward to seeing what you choose.

Yep, all of those are on my list, as well as the double breasted empire line brocade jacket from the latest issue, and - step away from the magazine, Joanna! - the flat-chested sparkly empire line cropped one from last month which we have already established will not suit me AT ALL!

I am veering towards either the plus one with the curved front darts or the puff shoulder one - I seem to remember that is a tall pattern, so it might be a better fit to start with, but then I might need a bit of extra room through the bust. Do I remember rightly that the plus are cut for a D cup and the misses for a C?

I do love the Victoriana meets equestrian look :)

ETA: I asked DH and he has voted for the Victorian riding jacket, so I think that is probably the one I will go for - he has excellent taste when it comes to clothes (and wives )!
