Can I do it after seam has been sewn (Moderated by EleanorSews)

I'm making the kirsten kimono by maria,of denmark (a knit tee shirt.) I have sewn the shoulder seams and side seams. I realize now that I forgot to reinforce the shoulder seam with clear elastic. Do you think I could just sew the seam a second time with clear elastic? --meaning leave original seam in an sew right over it. The knit is light weight so it needs the reinforcement. I'm using a sewing machine, not a serger. Thanks.

I never reinforce shoulder seams unless it is a super stretchy knit and I have never had an issue. If I do reinforce I use a piece of knit interfacing or a piece of the selvage edge of the knit. If you want to do it now, I would just use my sewing machine.

Yes, you can do it afterwards, if needed.
I just had to do this with two RTW sweaters.

Sure. If you don't like the possibility of clear elastic in contact with your skin, you could also use something like doll elastic (the very narrow covered elastic) if you want something stretchy, or if you want something more stable, use twill tape or the selvage off some cotton broadcloth or muslin. Or even a narrow strip of fusible interfacing.
Personally, I tend to use twill tape. Might just be old habit, but I really don't want shoulder seams to stretch.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to put the clear elastic in. I was dreading the thought of picking out the original stitches.
