My Babylock Coverstitch arrived today.

I threaded it, and, without one. single. adjustment. ran off coverstitch seams on (this is on two layers of each fabric unless I specify) fleece, cotton sheeting, cotton/rayon broadcloth, linen, lightweight polyester shirting, polar tech 300 with sherpa lining, wool tricotine, lycra mesh lining, swimsuit fabric with lining fused to it folded twice, four times and folded four times with swimwear elastic in the middle.

There was not one. skipped. stitch. Not one. The stitches were perfect. The lycra mesh tunneled on a narrow cs, but I have no doubt I can fix that with a simple adjustment. Everything else worked without touching a dial. I fed it thread and pushed on the pedal.

Now, I've got to figure out what to do with Mephisto, the Janome 2000 cpx that will not sew ANYTHING without skipping stitches. I can't sell it because it's a dud. I dawdled with it for 5 months, so it's not returnable.

I may work up my nerve and ask the dealer for a refund. I may ask corporate Janome for a refund.

I've also been toying with the idea of mailing it to Janome with a cover letter asking them if this is really the best they can do. At $700 it's an expensive, bulky paperweight.

All I know for sure is that no, the Babylock does not have a wide harp, and yes, it did cost almost twice as much. But ... it works. And I don't have to stand on my head to get it to work.

I feel like I got out of coverstitch jail.

Congratulations. I'll add that, after 10 years of owning my BLCS, it's still an amazingly reliable machine and I've never had to stand on my head a single time. Enjoy.

The only time my BLCS went on the fritz was when I accidentally pushed the differential feed all the way up and then couldn't figure out why it was gathering my hem!

Congratulations on your new CS. May you enjoy it for many, many years!

Congratulations on your new BLCS!! Isn't it great? I've had mine for 12 or 13 years and it still works perfectly. Every once in a while I miss the little bar for the chain looper and the stitch is wonky, but as soon as see that, I know exactly what has happened. Don't forget about all the wonderful binders that you can use with BLCS. I got mine on ebay. Also check out Debbie Cook's wonderful coverstitch tutorials on her blog Stitches and Seams.

I'm going to look on Ebay for binders and read up on Debbie's blog.

My husband and I went out for supper, and when we came back, I immediately went in and started playing with it again.

I can't get over the difference in quality between it and the other machine. It's incredible.

Love my BLCS-2! Never have I looked back! One time I took it in for maintenance but I've had it for four years and thought it was time for that. Enjoy!

Congrats on your new coverstitch machine! And ITA about your old one. I'm in the same exact (Janome) boat. And like you, loving my newest coverstitch machine.

Enjoy!

Congratulations! Glad to hear you art happy with your new cover stitch. I love mine and the fact that they sew so easily and so well. I did change out the bulb with and led for a brighter light, but that's it.
