I haven't sewn much this winter but I have been busy knitting a sweater DH "designed" (he choose the stitch patterns and how he wanted them laid out).

I finished the knitting 2 days ago and washed it - to block it and to hopefully remove the dark band that goes across his midsection.

The wash water was pretty dirty - I've been working on this sweater for many months. But I'm pretty sure that darker band is sitll there across the front. The yarn is lambwool and is loosely spun (Elements by Louet). I washed it in Suave shampoo.

Any ideas? I'm wondering if I should rip it out (it's knitted from the neck down) and reknit that section. Obviously, I'd rather get busy seaming the underarms and side seams. I'm ready for this sweater to be done!!

I'll take another picture tomorrow morning when the sun is out. It's all spread out drying on the carpet in my sewing room.

I suggest washing the sweater again, but this time pre-treat the shadow with a stain remover. I have good luck with Grandma's Secret Spot Remover and I have also used Carbona Stain Devils. Carbona has a formula that is especially for Fat, Grease, and Oil, which would be a good formula to use for this situation, I think.

Gosh that is a beautiful sweater! I hope you have an easy fix, but That is so pretty even redoing that section would be worth it!

Are you sure it's a stain and not something different with that lot of wool? If the latter, I'd just leave it alone. It's the kind of thing you see in natural wool and naturally dyed sweaters, as well as in handwoven rugs.

I agree. It says natural wool, beauty, healthy.

Mary, I bet you would be the only person to notice. Others will be admiring that gorgeous thing and never see what you see.

I recommend Kookaburra wool wash, made in Australia with a teatree oil base. Use 2 ounces with 4 quarts of warm water. Soak over night, gently squeeze for two minutes, drain well, add one quart of warm water, squeeze., block and dry. The joy of Kookaburra is you don't need to rinse it, it doesn't strip the oil out of the wool, and helps keep the wool soil and smell resistant. I wouldn't try to hard to remove the slight discolouration either. Overwashing might do more damage than just enjoying the real thing.

Y'all are so sweet - thank you.

It's really cloudy today and I still can't tell if looks better. I'll take a picture as soon as I get some sunlight!

Did you change skeins or cones there, perchance? It's such a dark line.

That would probably bug me enough that I'd cut that section out and reknit, if you've got the yarn to do it with...

Pretty sweater!

Okay I stupidly didn't even look at dye lots (I guess I thought "natural" didn't count). I'll go check the remaining skeins and see if there is a dye lot on the label.

I bought all the yarn on sale and didn't consider dye lots at that time as I was thinking of dyeing it.

Typing this out also makes me wonder if I have earlier WIP pictures of the front .... if this just appeared then I'll know it's dirt it picked up as I worked on it.

It always helps to talk to you Kay!

This picture was snapped January 1 and there it is. I didn't even notice it then.

I have three skeins still in bands and they have a "dye lotish" number stamped. It's possible I got an odd one or maybe even one that picked up something in the spinning process at the mill.

DH says it's fine. But that's DH.

Remember the men's collared shirts in the late 80's that had a duck logo embroidered? I tried to do one for him only got a gauge of waste cloth that was too big. The duck came out about 4x what the logos on RTW shirts were. It was an old shirt so I told him I was going to cut the duck out and frame it for him.

So what does he do? He freaking wears it. If that wasn't bad enough, he went where I WORKED and proudly showed everyone in the office telling them I made it for him. I wanted to die!! That night Duckzilla got amputed from the shirt.

Yeah I'm fixing it.
