So I am doing a modern pattern that lines the bodice..In the past I only use facings for the neckline...is there any consequence of doing just facings and ignoring the lining? Will my bodice sizing be "off" if i did this?

No, it's just a choice. You may find the fashion fabric wearing more quickly without a lining to help support it, though.

When a pattern calls for a lining, the lining itself is sewn in the same way that a bodice is...then both are attached together...then flipped inside out. The armholes are later attached to the sleeves which isn't lined. Doesn't the pattern require extra seam allowances since you are essentially sewing it (the arm holes) twice? Maybe I am over worrying.

That's not how I've sewn a sleeved, lined bodice. Generally, I sew the bodice and join the sleeves, then join the lining to CB and neckline, then side seams. Armscye lining seam allowance is turned under and covers the sleeve join's seam allowance.

That's right, I think my inexperience with linings is making me confused, thanks so much! I feel I have a better hold of it now.

If you construct your lining this way, when you attach the bodice and lining together, don't attach at the armscyes! Leave those raw and then you can decide whether to treat both of them together as one when attaching to the sleeves (the lazy way, will need seam finishing....what I usually do) or attach the sleeves to the bodice then hand sew the lining around it. I've never seen anyone using the technique you described, so I'm sure most patterns aren't drafted for this method. Sounds interesting, but you still have raw edges of the sleeves afterwards so it doesn't really seem to have any advantages for garments with unlined sleeves.

Thanks everyone! I think i just read hte instructions wrong, I rarely use modern patterns so its nice to see how much easier they are.
