I have found something on Ebay that I have been looking for in months and am very excited but here is the problem... The seller accepts money order and cashier checks. I have never asked my bank for this service and have no idea how much it costs (the bank fee I mean). The item with the shipping is $20. The auction ends tomorrow and the banks are closed tomorrow so I cannot call and ask. Would someone be able to give me a ballpark idea on how much banks charge for these 2 services?

They shouldn't charge anything, IMNSHO.
But can you check your bank's webpage?

Bonny lass, bonny lass, will you be mine?
You shall neither wash dishes nor serve the wine;
But sit on a cushion and sew a fine seam,
And feast upon strawberries, sugar, and cream.

Most banks charge around a dollar for cashier's checks.

Most grocery stores sell Money Orders. I think the last time I purchased one it was around 60¢, although I can't remebr if the rates were different for different amounts of money (this was for over $100). I don't think so, though.

Just a comparison, up here in northern Ontario a money order costs $5 and you have to get them at a bank. Oh yes, and at the post office. Same price.

My bank (in our grocery store!) charges $2/money order. The grocery store itself charges 65 cents. Beware of the bank charges. Sometimes convenience stores will sell them for under $1 as well.

The post office also sells money orders - they are $.90. But if you have a convenience store around (there aren't any in my city, believe it or not) I'd go there because it'll be faster.

In reply to Eli
banks way overprice money orders and cashier's checks. A monsey order at my bank is $6. I can buy a reular monaey order at my local convenience storre chain for about 79 cents. They are just as good as the ones the bank and the post office sells, and are also traceable. Save the cash and head to your convenience store chain...

At my banks, they are free. If you have a certain amount in your account, then you get free checks, online banking, stop payments and cashiers checks. Check your bank info on line.
