Thank you for posting that. I love that article and I love Wiss Scissors. I have a cherished pair that my sister gave. The best pair I ever had.

Since about 1962 I have been using the same pair of Wiss shears. They were my Christmas gift from my mother, who had been given the same model a few years earlier, and I loved them. I've sewn wedding dresses, boat sails, alpaca jackets and everything in between over the years. I have other shears, and though they haven't been sharpened in years, these 7 inch bent trimmers are still my favorites, in almost daily use.

They are really great shears, I've had mine since the mid 70's. Never really thought about their sound but it is rather comforting.

Thank you for posting this! Every year, on the date of the fire, the FDNY drives an engine over to the site and cranks the ladder up only 5 storeys: sadly, as high as the fire ladders could go in those days.

Oh, really? I didn't know that. You know, my grandmother and her sister worked at the Triangle Shirt Factory. One day my grandmother told her boss they couldn't come to work the next day because they were having a party. Her boss told her, come in tomorrow or don't come in at all. They stayed home. That was the day of the fire.

when teaching my sewing class there is that wonderful sound of taking out my pair of expensive shears and showing how good shears cut fabric....the clear crisp cut...in comparison to the struggling cut of a cheap pair my student was trying to use,

Oh, gosh, your family is part of New York history. Be nice if both home and prof sew-ers gather there that day. I'm second gen Italian: thanks to the ILGWU, I was not only the first girl to get a college degree, my family's wages (the men were all in the factory, too, as pressers) paid for me to go Ivy League. I never forget that. The union where diversity and inclusion were born! The UNION THEME SONG still gives me goosebumps.
