Help Needed (Moderated by Sharon1952, EleanorSews)

Hi,
I tried my buttonhole foot for the first time today on some scraps, when the metal plate (compensation plate?) is attached, my buttonhole is stuck at 1 point, not moving at all. It keeps stitching but not moving.
When I removed the metal plate, it makes normal buttonhole.
I used muslin, then double gauze and then quilting cotton because at first I thought it was the fabric. But all three have the same results. Perfectly fine buttonhole without the metal plate attached, and stuck at 1 point with the metal plate attached.
Is there something I do wrong? Why won’t the fabric move when the metal plate is on?
I remember when they test my machine about a year ago when I bought it to see if it was working properly, the salesperson did a test buttonhole with the metal plate attached and it worked. I would go back and ask them but it’s a bit far, so I thought maybe someone can help me?
Because from what I heard what makes the buttonhole foot extraordinarily special is the metal plate, what’s wrong with mine? I think it’s user error, help please?
Thank you so much for your help.
*** I think I posted this in the wrong forum ... I’m sorry but I have no idea how to move it ...

I figured it out!
The extension table is preventing the plate to move, when I remove my extension table the buttonhole foot with the metal plate worked perfectly.
