I keep seeing a pencil on some of the drawings - sometimes more than one on say a back skirt piece.
I know I saw a description at one time but I can't seem to find it. The knit dress I'm making is super simple but it's driving me crazy that I can't remember what the pencil signifies.
Does anyone know? I did a search, read through the Ottobre general directions, etc. and I got nothing!

It's usually where you need to duplicate a piece such as a facing, or if there's pattern variations, eg sleeve or hem length. It should tell you in the cutting instructions for that pattern and the pencil image on the small scale pattern pieces indicate where.
The sleeveless top I made recently was a variation of a sleeved dress so the cutting instructions said "trace armhole edges along grey pattern lines" - as opposed to the main, black lines for the sleeved dress. (Top 15 from 5/2019)

The little pencil is there to show the lines to trace for facings. I trace my pattern piece, then trace the facing separately. They do this rather than making separate pattern pieces, since the cutting lines are identical.

Interesting!
There are no facings but this same pattern piece is cut on the fold for the skirt front and then lined up with a grain arrow and cut all around for the skirt back (with seam allowances added at center back). Oh that's it I bet and I already traced the pieces and have made this dress several times.
I should be good to go.
I almost had a panic attack though!

it's a reminder to "draw in" any extra bits (facing, hem, whatever) that aren't specifically shown on the bits you are given to trace. Instructions always tell you WHAT is to be drawn in.
