Hello
I am inspired to try this pinafore from Helen's closet after seeing this review
review
I happen to have this kingly cord in my stash and I also have quite a bit of medium/heavyweight denim
Would this work fabric work

That cord would be a lovely choice. The challenge would be pattern placement/matching for the pocket. I can't tell the scale of the print, so if smaller scale it would not be an issue. Show pics when you are done!

Thanks for that
The motifs are about 2" high. I was thinking of doing the binding in a plain navy cotton lawn and the pocket in plain navy needlecord.

Audition that pocket... I have a feeling that a contrast pocket might not be your favorite once you see it.

Pretty corduroy!

PS: did you notice the showed the corduroy sideways, with the wales running left to right, not vertically?

A pocket in a solid color matching one of the backgrounds then embroidered with a motifs matching the designs might be pretty.

It's just fabric; we can out-think it.

Consider, if you want contrast, piping that pocket with a solid, as you suggested for binding. Or, as BriarRose suggested, adding some blending embroidery or maybe even applique. I just know for me, at my current shape, a big, solid, dark splotch on my belly isn't going to be doing me any favors.

You are brilliant for thinking of this.

I was thinking of the style as a pinafore rather than wearing a dress with an apron over the top when cooking. It is only for wearing in the house like a pinafore/apron which makes me think I should seek out fabric which which isn't as special as this Liberty one. The aprons I have are made from canvas with lighter weight contrasting pockets and hence the idea. I should probably make a muslin first and take time to seek out something cheap and cheerful for this project which is harder to do when buying on line. A medium weight plain cotton with drape while using your piping idea or topstitching the pocket perhaps.

A 5 oz weight cotton linen mix in a chambray comes to mind for topstitching for one to wear outside the home. Otherwise perhaps a craft cotton a bit heavier than quilters cotton for the apron/dress idea for wearing in the home. I have been having some success with cotton that is for bag making as well as apparel

Got it! I will make a muslin with the aim of wearing it indoors as an apron dress when cooking and then I will feel more confident with other fabrics.
Thanks for helping me to think this through.
With the liberty print they also have a rossmore cord which is lighter than the kingly cord. I can sometimes find the same print in both weights

Thanks for the suggestion.
I haven't tried embroidery on my machine yet and would probably have to do the applique idea instead.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

The perfect apron fabric for cooking for me would probably be a Jackson Pollock type drip and splotch pattern.

I was actually reading that pattern as a (US) jumper, a sleeveless dress worn over a blouse, often with an unfitted waist.
