Hi!
I have a question about my serger (it is a Juki MO 1000).
As you can see on the video, the serger handles the 2 layers -> 6 layers transition pretty well, but then once we are back on 2 layers the knives don't manage to cut the fabric anymore and it is a mess, oops!
I have done at least 10 differents tests and the problem is very similar at the same time. As long as I go super slow, the serger can go over the thick layers, but it is the transition between the different thickness that seem complicated.
Do you have an idea how I can solve this issue?
thank you in advance!

How old is your knife? They do get dull over time and need to be replaced.

Mine does that occasionally. I've always thought that it was user error. If I'm careful to keep the fabric to the left of the knife flat, that solves the problem. Usually I do that by holding the strip that just got cut, because I don't want to get my fingers near the actual knife. If you find out that a new knife solves the problem, please let us know. It will be great if there's a simple fix. It's a pain when it goes under the needle that way. I've got the same serger.

It looks like you're cornering after coming off the 6 layers - is that correct?
If so, have you tried it going from 2 to 6 to 2 but stitching straight?
Which serger are you using?

Sometimes the lower knife has been knocked ever so slightly out of place and needs to be reset. Often it is an imperceptible amount! It's always worth a try. Good luck!

oh I'll try this, thank you! I'm always a bit scared to bring my fingers that close, but I'll be careful ;)

No, I'm not cornering the fabric. My goal is to have a straight line. However, because the knife doesn't cut the fabric, the fabric is pushed to the side, hence this corner effect.
I use a Juki MO-1000 :)

Thanks! What does "reset" means here? (English isn't my mother tongue, sorry).
Like, should I remove the knife and put it back again? Or tighten the screw?

If you haven't used the serger all that much, then it probably isn't the knife.
I agree with another comment that you have to hold the fabric flat as you go through. Also, initially go slow until the knife cuts into the fabric.
There also may be tension or differential feed adjustments that can be made.
When I switch fabrics or layers going through the serger, I test a patch first. Good luck!
