In the past due to my less than organised sewing supply storage approach (i.e. bits kept in various boxes spread out) I never really had a good overview of what was in stock. More recently over the last year in an effort to get tidier I sorted through everything. I was a bit taken aback at quite how many sewing needles I had amassed.

Here in the UK we have been in lock down for over a month now. From a sewing point of view I discovered I could continue making things and haven't needed to shop for anything online at all. It has been quite satisfying to make 3 baby jackets using existing patterns, fabric and notions.

I've caught myself eyeing up fabric I have had for years with ideas floating around in my head what to make with it. Finally, having a stash has been rewarded! It also feels nice to sew without spending any more money on a project. Maybe I will even get a chance to free up some space in my fabric storing drawers.......

I just wish I had some more energy to sew at the moment. I feel easily tired. I hope everyone else with a stash is enjoying something similar.

Lots of my cotton this and thats have become face masks. I have become completely adept at making double fold tape from 2" cross wise strips of quilting cottons... Stay safe RMusic1

One of the first things I did on lockdown, after sewing a few items in my queue, was to go through every piece of fabric I own and open it and refold it. Wow, did I get ispired! I found pieces I forgot existed. I found nice things that I could make quickly into smaller projects and pulled those out and put them aside as my next sewing projects. I only work on one project at a time. It was so nice to feel this inspiration and to have everything at hand to pull off the vision. I would look at a piece of open fabric and decide what it could be. Then I would decide if it would go in the queue or not. It was great fun and my sewing room looks so organized now. To the OP: I am glad you found the same sort of inspiration and the resources there to see your vision through. Stay safe and happy sewing!

I’ve been mostly shopping my stash, too, and enjoying the heck out of it! But I have been experiencing the same thing you are: feeling tired, a lack of energy for sewing. I think for me it’s a side effect of the stress we’re living in right now. We need to be extra sure to take care of and be patient with ourselves.

We have never experienced such uncertainty throughout the world. I think that it is natural to feel uneasy because our environment is so changed as well as so many other elements. Of course, we worry about the ill and dying members of society and whether we will get sick. I am working at half speed and allowing myself time to rest, read poetry, and pamper myself. In these times we need to take care of ourselves so that we can help others.

Sewing and reading about sewing are daily pleasures.
I hope to use up lots of stash in 2023. I am also starting to give away fabric, tools, etc that I am not going to use in an attempt to downsize.

A few years ago I over-indulged in buying elastic in every color of the rainbow. I've made a huge dent in my elastic supply by sewing face masks, and sharing my elastic with others who needed elastic.

Sewing from your stash is easy when you only make two knit tops in five weeks of keeping "safe at home". Thought a long period of no business travel would improve not diminish my productivity. Not even a blog post to show for the time working from home.

My production is less than expected while working full time from home: 1 mask and 1 apron to show for all my efforts and posting a few recent pre-pandemic reviews. This said, I managed to sort my zippers by size to find out I am missing some of the key colors for upcoming projects - why did I not buy them when I bought the fabric in the first place? I also finally sorted hem tape, bias, etc. Install my dress form after purchasing it 2 years ago. Well, it is better than nothing.

Good for you, getting your dress form set up and all those notions organized. You are ready to select a pattern and fabric, and sew something lovely that fits!

I am happy to have my hoard, er...stash, in these special times. DD asked me to make a dress, using a pdf pattern, and we finally picked one that suited her and suited me. And, being at home, I had more than enough time to get the pdf put together. Then the next step was fabric. I didn´t expect to have any in stash that DD would approve of...but, having lots of time, I went through the boxes. And, by surprise, found at least 4 pretty good options. Fabrics I had totally forgotten about. Sent photos via internet to DD, who approved of one of the options. Not exactly what she had in mind, but it had the big advantage of being available! I am so happy there´s a new project to tackle using supplies I have on hand.
